His comments triggered backlash online, with some questioning his suitability as the prestigious engineering institute’s director.
Behera specialises in robotics and artificial intelligence, according to the IIT-Mandi website. He has been involved in initiatives demonstrating the therapeutic effects of Indian classical music, mantra, and yoga on people dealing with mental stress and psychic disorders.

In another video clip, he asserted that people die from overeating, not hunger. According to him, hunger makes “you a better person”. Behera did not respond to requests for comment on the matter.
