LUCKNOW: Reaffirming her decision to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections without any political alliance, BSP national president Mayawati on Thursday asked her party workers from the state units of UP and Uttrakhand to work hard to clinch power and work for the welfare of poor, deprived and neglected sections of the population, which “no other political party is doing”.
She told her workers that “bahujan samaj” (people other than the upper caste community, including SCs, STs, OBCs and religious minorities) have extreme faith in the ideology and movement of the party and `sarvasamaj’ (people from all communities) has its interest in the party growing, and this is what the party has to depend on to win the elections.
The state-level meeting of UP and Uttrakhand units of the party focussed on holding cadre meetings, selection of candidates for general elections and the ways and means to make party organization a robust structure.
Mayawati also sought a report from the two state units on the progress made on the points finalised in the earlier meetings.
“The political situations in the country, UP and other states are changing fast due to the anti-people, narrow-minded and casteist policies and work culture of the respective governments,” she said, adding that in such a case, no single party may emerge as dominant and people may make it a multi-polar contest in the Lok Sabha elections.
“Lok Sabha elections will not only be interesting but also difficult. BSP will have a significant role,” she said.
The party workers, she said, need to persistently work on the directions that are issued to them from time to time to make the party win and work for the welfare of Dalits, Adivasis and religious minorities, especially Muslims.
In Uttar Pradesh, she said that instead of the holistic development of all 75 districts, the government fund has been spent on the “development of a chosen few”, similar to the Samajwadi Party regime.
“It is amply clear that like SP and Congress, even BJP can not get people’s vote for the work that it has done. They are resorting to malicious and misleading strategies to win support of the people, of which, the people of bahujan samaj need to be wary.”
