NEW DELHI: Manipur Police has arrested a sixth person in connection with the horrific case of two women being paraded naked in Manipur.

“Another accused was arrested today. Altogether 6 persons including five main accused and one Juvenile has been arrested,” Manipur Police said on Twitter.
Meanwhile, Manipur police and central forces have tightened security across the state to prevent any flare-ups.

Police said they are making all-out efforts to arrest the remaining culprits by conducting raids at many suspected hideouts.
On Friday, four accused who were allegedly part of a mob that sexually assaulted three women on May 4 were remanded to 11-day police custody, even as the opposition raised the issue in both Houses of Parliament eventually forcing early adjournment for the second day in a row.
Local media on Friday reported that a large group of women burnt down the house of the main accused in the case.
Amid renewed calls for his resignation and the ruckus in Parliament over a viral video purportedly showing two women being paraded in the nude, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh evaded a question on the demand for him to step down, saying his job was to restore peace to the state and ensure that the perpetrators of the alleged incident in the viral video are brought to book.
The Manipur CM said his government will ensure exemplary punishment for the culprits. “Everyone is outraged since the viral video surfaced. In our society, all women are seen as mothers and sisters, which is why protests have erupted across the state in demand for strict action against the accused,” the CM said.
