Pick of the day: Stalking: State of Fear

9pm, ITV1

Nearly two million women in the UK live in fear of stalkers, with two killed each week, overwhelmingly by their stalkers. This shocking and overdue documentary meets some of those affected, along with the family of 23-year-old Gracie Spinks, who was murdered in 2021 after reporting her stalker (a colleague at work who subsequently took his own life) to Derbyshire police. Only 5 per cent of cases reported to police result in convictions. “Every aspect of the criminal justice system is stacked against the victim,” says Maisie, a doctor from Lancashire who found herself under arrest after her stalker turned the tables and accused her of stalking him.

Interior Design Masters With Alan Carr: The Final

8pm, BBC One

It would be interesting to know how previous winners have gone on to fare in the interior design business, but, be that as it may, it’s now the final. And there’s a suitably grand location as Roisin and Matt head to Blenheim Palace to do up holiday lodges. With Alan Carr and Michelle Ogundehin dressed like extras from Bridgerton, Roisin opts for floral wallpaper while Matt channels Blenheim’s baroque splendour.

Aldi’s Next Big Thing

8pm, Channel 4

There are international flavours at the supermarket HQ, with products hoping for inclusion on the Aldi aisles including a Filipino ketchup made from bananas; some Nigerian puff puff (“like donuts, but better”) and a soul food “love dust” that is sure to bring some fiery heat to the kitchen. Representing Turkey is a DIY kebab marinade and from Jamaica comes a jackfruit mutton ready meal.

Changing Ends

8.30pm, ITV1

The young Alan Carr (delightfully played by Oliver Savell) returns home with a black eye, making his parents think that he’s being bullied. The story behind the shiner is more complex, however, and involves the arrival of the saviour of Alan’s schooldays, flamboyant drama teacher Miss Gideon (Cariad Lloyd). “Barking on all fours and pretending to be a conifer… that’s what school was meant to be,” says the adult Alan (Carr himself) of his drama lessons.

MasterChef

9pm, BBC One

Ten past contestants return for a second chance in Comeback Week, but only six will make it to the last quarter-final. Past MasterChef: The Professionals finalist Matthew Ryle joins John Torode and Gregg Wallace to taste and react to their dishes.

Michael Palin in Nigeria

9pm, Channel 5

In the last leg of his eye-opening journey (Nigeria proving an inspired choice for a travelogue), Palin heads to the city of Benin (not to be confused with the neighbouring country of the same name), where he learns about the 1897 Raid on Benin, and views a commemorative statue.

On Assignment

10.45pm, ITV1

Veteran news reporter James Mates travels to Lithuania to meet with Russian opposition activists who are regrouping after the death of Alexei Navalny, while Antoine Allen is on Mayotte in the Indian Ocean, where the EU’s small boats’ immigration crisis threatens to destabilise the French overseas territory. Plus, Harry Horton joins the inaugural voyage of the new Brussels-Prague sleeper train to see if continental sleepers can compete with airlines.
